Meet Jenna Levine! Jenna joined the team in April of 2023 as an archaeologist. Pax recently sponsored Jenna to attend American Association of Biological Anthropologists meeting in Los Angeles! The American Association of Biological Anthropologists defines biological anthropology as the study of the adaptation, variability, and evolution of humans and their present and past relatives. It examines human biology within the context of culture and behavior, making it both a biological and social science.

At this year’s conference, Jenna had the opportunity to attend a presentation on the erosion of a cemetery in Africa and the ongoing efforts of researchers to collaborate with a local village in recovering remains. She also learned about a comprehensive investigation into the effectiveness of various face masks and which types best suit different face shapes. Additionally, she participated in the Dental Anthropology Association workshop, where attendees learned how to capture microscopic images of teeth to measure and count perikymata. This technique enables researchers to assess potential stresses individuals experienced during childhood while their teeth were forming.

Jenna shared her thoughts on her experience:

“Engaging with other biological anthropologists and witnessing their presentations on current research was truly inspiring. I am proud to be part of Pax Environmental because they encourage their archaeologists to pursue their professional and personal interests in archaeology. The knowledge I gained from this year's meeting is invaluable, and I eagerly anticipate next year's gathering!” Click here to learn more about the American Association of Biological Anthropologists.
